Elsa Peretti Tiffany & Co. silver, silk and hand woven bamboo museum held bag. This beautiful & rare to find bag is a work of art inspired by a trip to Japan, Elsa Peretti collaborated with distinguished Japanese basket artist Watanabe Chikusei in creating these bags. The basketry was individually hand made by Chikusei and help to explain the bags rarity. The bags are no longer produced nor sold by Tiffany & Co. Originally made in different shapes & finishes they are a challenge to collect. This bag is early from the 1980s. Almost square in shape with a beautiful design, each blade of bamboo was individually chosen & cut to shape creating a fine texture design. The basket is mounted in silver with delicately shaped handles on each side, back hinges & front clasp. A hand woven black silk cord with a tassel is looped at the side. Unlined. In lovely condition. Marked T. & Co. Peretti Silver. In The Museum of Fine Arts Collection, Boston.
