Roberto Cavalli 1970s printed suede top and skirt set rare to find. Roberto Cavalli came from an artistic family and studded at the Academy of Art in Florence, he decided not to become a painter, instead experimenting by applying painterly techniques to textiles in ways that had not been done before. In the early 1970s he showcased his revolutionary materials for the first time in his debut collection. "I had this idea to print on leather. I used glove skin (leather) from a French tannery, and when I started to print, I saw it was possible to make evening gowns in leather." he said. Having patented his leather printing technique, he earned commissions from other design houses including Hermès and Pierre Cardin. From the 1970s this rare set in suede done rich earth colours of brown, gold, silver and russet, the print is leaves and leafy fronds . The tank top with narrow straps low cut front and back it is slightly fitted at the waist and hip length with side vents, it is unlined. The matching mid calf length skirt has a banded waist, the skirt is lightly gathered and has seamed panels and a banded hem. The skirt wraps at the waist and closes with a button at the side back, there are hidden side pockets. Unlined. Each piece is in very good vintage condition with no spots or tears. Cavalli's early printed leather clothing is very hard to find. This set is marked size medium.
