SOLD Vintage1920s Hand Embroidered Blue and White Linen Day Dress
Vintage 1920s embroidered blue and white linen day dress. This is such an amazing example of the ethnic trend of early 20th century women's fashion worn by artists and the avant garde, this style was beautifully hand embellished, loose and comfortable. The design is influenced by the advent of exotic travel, discoveries in Egypt and designer Paul Poiret's fascination with the middle east and India, evidenced by his designs of the period. This dress is made from fine sheer white linen hand embroidered in blue cotton floss, the embroidery and drawn work is expertly done in a geometric pattern that pops against the white. The simple dress pulls on with a v neckline and small wing collar. Long sleeves are semi full with turn back cuffs, that have hidden snaps to close, the old snaps have been replaced with new ones. The silhouette is straight with a self belt at the front that ties in the back, it can be removed, there are two embroidered openings at the front for the belt to go though. There are two hip front pockets. The skirt has stitched down pleats at the hip that open below to add fullness to the skirt. This dress will fit a size medium or large, see measurements below.
