Geoffrey Beene, Beene Bazaar Mod, matching plaid, kangaroo pocket swing coat from the 1960s. Matching plaid is an art, not seen in most contemporary clothing. From the the 1960s this Geoffrey Beene, Beene Bazaar, label pre-dates his BeeneBag label which was started in 1971 as a lower priced label. Beene Bazaar, was a more casual, sporty line aimed at younger women. Although it's mentioned the fabrics weren't as lux as his namesake line, the fabrics were unique combinations and high quality. This twill plaid is done in golds, mustard & navy blue. Beene had a knack for whimsy and unique touches that were eye-catching. This swing coat has a Peter Pan collar and closes at the upper side front under the collar with a hook and embroidered loop, it continues to close down the left side of the coat front, with hooks & embroidered loops. Raglan shoulder/sleeves are bracelet length and have inverted pleated cuffs. The coat swings out from the mid bust to the hem, there is an inverted pleat from about the waist, center back to the hem back. At the off center, about waist, front there is a large open patch pocket with an attached decorative button flap. The plaids are carefully matched at all the seams. Fully lined in dark blue rayon. The coat is made from a tightly woven, medium weight, cotton blend fabric. Fits like a size small, with narrow shoulders, high bust darts. Modern 2-4.
